Newbridge Rehab Bottle Bank Project

An environmental project by Newbridge Kildare Lions Club.  A Project that was started in 1987.   By Newbridge Kildare Lions Club ….   And is still raising funds for Rehab.

Inauguration of the first bottle bank in County Kildare, 7th July 1988, by Lion Shane O’Connor, Project Organiser.

In 1987 the Club proposed to Kildare County Council the setting-up of a bottle bank in Newbridge.   Within two weeks the council replied and undertook to contribute £400 towards the cost.  The Club provided a further £950 and the Rehabilitation Institute installed waste glass Containers near the town hall the following July.

Rehab also undertook collection of the waste.   In the First year 1989, 45 tons of glass was deposited in the bins.  The following year the take was 75 tons.
